KB2508429 failed. Anyone else getting this?

Specs: Xp sp3, Intel P4

I can't remember ever having a Windows patch failing to install.

I went to the Windows update site. It said I had it downloaded already, so I told it to install. Failed again.

Any ideas? Any cause for concern?

Be nice to one another, okay?

I have seen where the auto update was running and when you tried to install it by hand it failed.

Didn't do both simultaneously. This patch was maybe number 5 of 14. It failed to install and kept chuggin'. After the update completed and rebooted, I went to the site.

Thanks for listening,

OH, #5 did take a long time. I wondered about that too.

Used MS's troubleshooting engine, with ambiguous results - still doesn't show the KB as installed. Opened an incident with MS support, and am awaiting a response.

I got a suggestion from raybro on another forum. In C:\Windows\softwaredistribution, there is a folder "Downloads". It was suggested that I rename it "Downloads.old", and windows update would create it again when it tried to download.

When the shield appeared saying it found updates to download, I saw that it was again looking to download KB2508429. I changed the name of the download folder as specified, and then clicked to download the patch. It did. Then it asked to install it, which I allowed. It completed successfully, and after restarting, I could see it in the add/remove list in my control panel.

Thanks for your attention. And Thanks, raybro
