The desktop wallpaper saved by Internet Explorer is located in: C:\Documents and Settings\{NAME}\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Internet Explorer Wallpaper.bmp
where {NAME} is your user account name.

If you used IE to set a new desktop background, this file is overwritten with the new image. By chance, did you use a different web browser like Firefox to set the previous wallpaper? If so, the file still exists. If not, the file is gone.

In the future, I suggest you create a folder called "Wallpaper" somewhere in the My Documents folder and save the pictures there. That way you'll never lose a good one. My Wallpaper folder has 268 files.

Apologies if I don't respond to your reply immediately. I don't check this site daily.

Thanks for your help!! I know it's gone now but in the future I will do what you suggested! As a stroke of luck, I may still have the picture on my work PC.
