Internet Explorer is not just an application but is essentially a part of the OS. It is not removable by normal methods and you should not attempt to do so. Other Windows components and applications require IE.

It is not good to have more than one active AV application running so Microsoft Security Essentially should be disabled. Avast may do this for you.

If you are running XP see these two about improving security:

IE 8 should show on 'add or remove programs'--it does on mine--but removing it will just revert things back to the previous IE version you had. Having IE 8 won't bother firefox and you may want it later.

Just for info MSE is supported until July 2015 but I accept that you might prefer to run with Avast.

Leave IE in place but avoid it and use Firefox instead - no clashes, just make Firefox your default browser.

If you are used to a simple package with no intrusion (like MSE) this is one of the merits of Bitdefender. Like Avast it gets good ratings too.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
