Internet Connection Wizard could not configur

February 13, 2011 at 13:09:20
Specs: Windows XP
I just had a box pop up saying The Internet Connection Wizard could not configure my computer for the internet. You will need to manually set up your own TCP/IP protocols, dial up net working, and modem, ISDN line, or other device you use to dial out from your computer.

Help! I am a gramma/dinosaur that needs your input. Please someone tell me very specifically what I need to do. Thank you so much!

How are you trying to connect? DSL? Cable? Dial-up?

You'll possibly need some sort of software if by the first two methods. You'll probably need DNS numbers for dial-up. In any event, it'd be best if you contact whoever provides your internet service.

If you're on dial-up, you shouldn't have to talk to your provider while online. They should be able to run you through setting things up without having to connect. Since each provider has different domain server addresses (DNS) to connect, then providing more than just "general" support here would likely be fruitless. They may also require special software (available only from them) to connect.

As far as general help:

I'm assuming your accessing this via a friend/neighbor/public computer (or otherwise, you obviously wouldn't be here, either)...
