Specs: Windows XP, duocore 2.8GH/2GB
Dear Gurus ,
After a recent power failure, crash and finally reinstall.
My winxp root directory has become host to a series of dll s like ...." install.res.1041"

They are all with the same date 07/11/2007, maybe when I bought XPpro.

Can I zap them?

Bye and thanks
Fred

Many thanks Ed for reply to "install.res.1041 query.
Yes I have looked at Google, but I don't see what it is all about?

Could you enlighten me please?

is / are these dlls a part of the winxp system, or to the contrary is it some sort of virus?

None of my standard scheme programs, ad aware, spy bot and AVG indicate ahything unusual.

Bye and thanks
Fred

I found this by searching the given file name in Google:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950683

Your file is listed there (with others) and deemed unnecessary for "Microsoft Visual Studio". XP isn't mentioned as such so I don't know for certain but would have thought it was a fair bet they are unnecessary.

Dear Guru, I think you have struck gold. yes, the MS file list coincides with most of mine. I agree it must be something to do with C++.
Why?
Well there are a few programs out thee that need .net to function and there was one I half remember that needed C++.

So if that might be the case, I think I'd best leave them.

Let's put the thread to sleep unless we have a positive identification of what the files are and do:
At the moment... something needed by C++

::-)

Bye
Fred

If in doubt leave files there is always a good policy.
Thx for popping back with your thoughts.

Fredf, seems I was crying before being hurt. It isn't an unknown, but seems innocuous. Take a look @:
