What exactly are you trying to do, create a dual boot setup? What's the point of having XP + XP?

A new hard drive usually comes with a cd, instructions and a utility to transfer your old drive to the new one. Did yours?

Chances are, what you're planning to do won't work unless the hardware on both computers is almost identical, espcially the motherboard/chipset. I suggest you get a new CD drive & do it the right way...or how about temporarily swapping the CD drive to the computer that needs the hard drive?

well they are both hp pavillions except the one i am on is deffinately older. well i tried that but it just wouldnt read the disk unless i have a faulty one. i tried setting it up so that it would boot from the flash but that didnt work either

I misunderstood...thought you were replace a current drive with a new one on the same machine.

You need to beg, borrow or buy an optical drive.
