Installing sp3 update on external hard drive

Specs: Windows XP
how do i install sp3 onto the (K:) drive instead of the default (C:) drive

You don't. SP3 is an update to the operating system and there is nowhere but the System drive to install it.

how would i install it on that drive then. I cant boot it up. until i fix an atapi.sys BSOD error. Which i believe sp3 fixes or replaces any ideas?

It does not boot up it should Autorun or else open your DVD drive and click the .exe file.

Can you boot into safe mode? If you can, try going to C:\windows\system32\drivers & delete atapi.sys, then reboot & install SP3
