IE unresponsive to typed URL

December 5, 2010 at 11:17:46
Specs: Windows XP Pro SP2, 3 Ghz, 2G
I'm on dial-up. If I am not on-line then IE is unresponsive to a typed URL. That is, the computer will not go then on-line the way it used to do. I have to go on-line first and then call up IE. Anybody have a solution?

If you are not connected to the Internet through your modem (ie: you are not "online") then IE cannot connect to the URL. Are you saying that your modem automatically dialed and connected when you typed in a URL?

Previously, yes. Not now.

This MAY be what you're looking for:

• Control Panel
• Internet Options
• Connections [tab]
Un-check "Never dial a connection" by selecting the appropriate option just below it. Sorry, I can't suggest which one without further info.

Thanks for your inputs, which were not the solution. I fiddled with some of the Services and whatever I did resolved the problem. Some of them seemed to be disabled. Thanks again
