dude444, SWAG, my thought is that the pop up is the result of a nasty (virus, worm/trojan, etc.?). Get rid of the nasty-get rid of the pop up.
Be aware that a virus and a Trojan are similar, but not the same. Many times, an AV detects one it can't clean, other times, it gets missed entirely.
If you need to clean one, Superantispyware (info only. I’m not paid for recommendation. WARNING! FYI, a full scan on mine takes over an hour.) can do the job and you can get it free @:
among other places. They have a Vista compatible version if needed. Dunno about Windows 7 or later.
If it turns out that you need to use it, be sure to update Superantispyware prior to running. Disable 'restore' after cleaning and run it again (to remove any nasties living there, restart after cleaning) so the nasty doesn't get put back should you later ‘restore’. They just released a new update recently and it changes all the time. Things are in a constant state of flux.
The restore thing is critical. May not be your deal at all, but won't hurt anything to try.

Did everything in my post but not tried your virus removal - I think that will take a long time, any short cut as in registry to delete this web page or pop up or defualt web page link in IE?

There are no registry tweaks that will correct the problem. As you were informed a full malware scan needs to be run on the system. It can take quite a bit of time but there is no alternative short of reinstalling Windows and all the applications.

I also use Malwarebytes and a couple of others to clean users systems when I am working on them. Some of the infections can take a few hours with multiple cleanings.

As Ed in Texas stated you need to re-run the utility until it shows no results of the trojan still being in the system.

Do you have more than one user account on the system? If you do then each account needs to be logged into and the utility run on that one too.

Malware will infect all the user accounts and cleaning one will not clean other accounts.

Download and run the free version of Malwarebytes.

It will find and get rid of things that are not normally found by most anti-malware software.

See response 22 in this

starting at

"Malwarebytes will get often get rid of malware that won't allow other anti-malware installation programs, or other anti-malware programs, to run normally."

dude444 probably had malware that was causing the problem.

In that case the usual situation is nothing you try works until the malware has been removed.

You probably had a different problem, and doing something such as merely changing your Home page in Tools - Internet Options in Internet Explorer would probably have worked.

I've found that this crap is installed as an BHO. Go to tools, manage addons & disable revenuestreaming browser enhancer. Don't have a clue where I picked it up. :>(
