IBM Thinkcentre booting problem

August 21, 2010 at 17:54:34
Specs: Windows XP Pro SP3, 2gb
I can't get my PC to install XP properly. When it boots, the XP CD loads but when it resets it loads the CD again instead of booting from the HD and running the CD. If I set the HD as primary boot device after the PC restarts from the XP first stage installation, the PC continually reboots. If set back to CD first, then it keeps loading the XP CD.

I read somewhere to disable the Preboot eXecution Environment which I did see at one time but now I can't find a trace of it in the BIOS.

And before all this started, the PC would say press any key to boot from CD... and freeze. Now it doesn't say anything and just boots from the CD.

Q1. Has the Harddrive been wiped clean?
Q2. What model machine and did it come with XP?
Q3. Is the HDD IDE or SATA?
Q4 Is it an "IBM" instal disk or a retail/OEM install disk?

1: HD was wiped clean and formatted (NTFS)
2: IBM Thinkcentre A50 8085 w/XP Pro
3: HD is IDE w/80 pin cable
4: Retail XP Pro (streamlined w/SP3)

The XP CD works with any other PC.
