Specs: Windows Vista
I have a Pentium 4 I purchase it around 2005 It has 256MB of DDR RAM video built into the motherboard and has a 30 GB hard drive.I want to upgrade the coputer to make it faster.
what you recomed as a cheap upgrade

Upgrade memory to up to 3 GB
backup all your data and do a new XP installation

Memory, go to http://www.crucial.com click on the scan my system button and it will inform you of compatable memory

You do NOT have to reinstall XP due to a memory upgrade. That's VERY poor advice. Just add more memory & go about your business.

Upgrading Ram is only real option you have without replacing motherboard/processor - but you need to be sure you buy the right type and size of RAM (ie, you need to know what your motherboard will take, otherwise new RAM won't work). Also Pentium 4's not brilliant performance (in my experience) - so even with adequate memory, performance may not be great, and 30GB hard drive is very small nowadays - you may be running out of space (depends on your usage of course). If you're short of money & need a short term improvement, go for the Ram, otherwise I'd be looking to replace the tower.
