Specs: Windows XP
when I try to boot I get a post code .0.4. and my reboot button beeps and flashes red. This code is not in the AV8 user's manual

Taking ijack's response a wee bit further...

Switch off; remove 'all" power sources - including the battery is this is a laptop. Leave computer sit for a minute or so at least...

Wash hands, and dry on a clean towel; but perhaps leave them just "slightly damp" - but not wet with actual moisture visible… Touch anything metallic that is grounded and then...

Access the memory module(s); remove carefully.

Clean the contacts (both sides) with a soft pencil style eraser.

Carefully replace memory modules (in the same slot where each was originally - if more than one present).

Apply power etc. switch and see if it will boot up OK...

It's also worth popping each cleaned RAM stick in and out a few times to clear oxide off the sockets themselves.
