I cant download anthing from windows

Specs: Windows XP
I try to down load free things offered from windows or anysite and my computer sends me an error message " Your security settings do not allow this file to be down loaded" please help! I am not computer sabby all I was tring to do was download a compatible DVD decoder so my little girl can watch her disney movies they wont play due to this. Thanks ahead of time to everyone! Mya :)

Mya, several things could be responsible for what you describe. Perhaps the most basic is just what you allow. Take a look at your 'security' tab in IE and make sure you don't have the Internet Zone set higher than 'Medium' or it'll block. Next thing to look at is your firewall settings. Same sort of deal, too stringent blocks.
Perhaps more dire (sorta unlikely IMHO) is the fact that you might have been infected by a nasty (virus, worm/trojan, etc.).

Internet Explorer by default will not automatically download files. What happens is that at the top of the window there should be a bar (generally a tannish color) that you click on to accept the download. It is usually accompanied by a prompt that says an action has been prevented. Try the download again and look for the acceptance link which when clicked on will ask for download or run.
