If AOL can't help, what do you think we're going to be able to do for you?

You don't know your user ID?

When you get to the sign-in page, there is a "Forgot Password" link where you can reset it by providing the proper answer to your security question. However, there is no way that you will be able to reset your password if you don't know your user ID.

If you call AOL main number at (800) 827-6364, you will need to provide your personal information, and once they have validated your identity, they will be able to help you gain access to your account.

no, it's not my user id that I have forgot-- it does not like my user id with my password and therefore It will not let me re-set or change my password. I was appealing to this forum because I thought other folks may have experienced this problem and might have some insight. Because the account was set up via free netscape.net years ago, AOL is claiming that they have no record of such account and do not support the free accounts

I also had a problem with resetting my AOL password (free account). With me I would enter my user name and when prompted my security question answer. I'd get as far as entering the new password twice and then it would loop back to the first screen again, asking for user name and security info. I tried for several days using different browsers. I cleared the cache and the problem still kept happening. Last night I tried one more time using Safari on my iPad and it worked! I can now access the account again. Sorry to have gone into so much detail about the back history but I thought it might be useful for other users who have the same problem. I don't know if it was because I was using the iPad or Safari but the combination worked. I decided to reply here because I initially looked at this forum for help with the problem.

Same problem here. I tried accessing my email on my phone and it said my password is wrong. I have not changed it for 15 yrs. Tried to access it on my mac and same thing. When I go to change my password it states it has no info to reset my account. Also my home page on AOL no longer shows my name. It is as if I never existed on AOL. When I tried to go back and make a new account with that same screen name it says it is not available. I too came from Netscape. Interestingly enough, my old netscape account was hacked and is not sending out spam from that address.

yes me too!!!!!!!! exactly!!!
I can check my email fine (old netscape.net account I have 15 years ago), but not someone has hacked my account and sending crazy messages from my account.

When I go to change my password (which everyone tells me will eliminate the problem) I cannot remember the security questions I set up 15 years ago!, so that act as if I NEVER exsisted and lock my computer everytime I try.

As long as I dont try to change my password, I can access it fine, BUT SO CAN WHOMEVER HAS HACKED IT!

How can I shut it down!!!!!!!!!!
