I cannot get my outlook express to run

February 17, 2011 at 14:05:53
Specs: Windows XP
Since I changed from broadband roadrunner to verizon wireless mifi2200 I cannot get my outlook express to work. Verizon does not have e-mail addresses so they cannot help me. I have tried to change it to my hotmail or gmail accounts but that will not work either. I am unable to correspond with customers on Craig's list or many other shopping websites now. help

gmail & hotmail both work through your browser - so don't need OE. If you do want to use with OE, need to enable pop and put the correct settings into OE (as per the help on those sites).

1.) What is the exact problem you're having?

1-A.) Can you no longer check your Roadrunner email through Outlook Express? Maybe your Roadrunner account was deleted when you canceled service? If not, you should try going to their website and use the webmail while you get your Outlook Express client working again.

1-B.) If your email account hasn't been changed, you shouldn't have trouble accessing it. Did you configure Outlook Express to specifically use a broadband connection? See if you can set it to use the same connection as Internet Explorer, or setup your new connection.

2.) Outlook Express is outdated. You should update to Windows Live Mail. Although the version for Windows XP is also outdated, at least it's much more recent.

3.) What Steve was referring to is setting up your Gmail or Hotmail accounts with your email client using POP3 mail protocol. What it sounds like you're trying to do for the time being is forward your Roadrunner email to your Gmail or Hotmail account. This problem could be related to question 1-A.

I do use my e-mails through the browser-Mozilla firefox. However when I try to respond to people's adds on say Craig's list, it always tries send with OE. I had changed the settings when I was on roadrunner to use their e-mail account. Now I do not have roadrunner but now am wireless verizon so it is not working. not sure how to correct the problem so that I can respond to Craig's list or other shopping networks.

I cannot use the roadrunner e-mail account since I dropped my account with them. My main complaint is that when I try to respond to shopping networks eg. Craig's list it tries to send the inquiries through Outlook Express. I do not know how to get them to send my mail through hotmail or gmail. It always goes to the outlook which can no longer send the mail through. I am now on Verizon wireless MIFI 2200 and they do not have their own e-mail address.

Okay, so you don't even want to use Outlook Express anymore and prefer just to use webmail. You just need to change the mailto protocol in your web browser. In Firefox, go to Tools > Options > Applications tab > Content type: mailto > Action: whatever you want.
