From what I can make of it svchost.exe should not be in that location - unable to get to an XP computer right now but I'll check it out tomorrow and report back.

In the meantime the most likely cause is a virus so for starters run MalwareBytes freebie - get it here:

Just run the quick scan and let it delete anything it finds. You might still need to run further programs if that doesn't help.

I would also go to the Run box, type sfc /scannow (one space as shown) then hit the Enter key. This will check your system files.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

So we don't waste everyone's time suggesting fixes you've already done, please tell us what you have done so far.

Svchost.exe should be in c:\windows\system32 not c:\windows. A misplaced file is often malware disguising itself as something legitimate. As Derek says, you need to run a scan.

Also, what kind of box? Is it a command prompt, white lettering on black backgroiund? If so something might be trying to run it in command prompt. If it's showing a blinking cursor try hitting ESC and see what happens. To close a command prompt box there should be the normal X button in the corner or do a CTRL-ALT-DEL and open task manager to close it.
