hyperlinks won't open

Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, 1518
I am reading a pdf document and in it there are hyperlinks. The problem is that when I click on the hyperlink, IE8 won't open the site.
Whats wrong?

Are links in other PDF's behaving the same?

If not, the links in your PDF are not complete & you will have to copy & paste into your browser.
