What burning software are you using? does it give any errors? pay attention to the log as it's burning, usually you can get good info from that.

Hello THX 1138 and Thankyou for the reply. I have burnt lots of discs before, so this is why i'm at a loss. I've tried through (WMP), also itunes, and (Fdrive) which came with the computer. Now nothing seems to work including ejecting the disc. Sorry if this is not enough info but as you have probably guessed i know little about computers, Thanks.

I've never used either of those to burn so I'm not sure what it looks like while it's burning. With other burning software it usually has a progress window that tells you what's going on during the burning process. Does WMP or iTunes have those and if so, does it give any info as to why the burn process failed?

Also have you changed anything in your system recently that might cause this such as adding new hardware or installing software?

Hello again THX 1138, i'm not sure what to tell you but here goes. I tried (wmp) first as i always do, and it kept on finalising the disc after ? 6 minutes of writing to disc was in operation, even after replacing new discs (of which i have used several times successfully) since then i have tried burning through itunes & direct through the CD Drive (F:). Now for some reason i'm unable to even eject the cd from the drive. To my knowledge nothing has been changed (ie, software or downloads) but as i have explained previously i know little about these things, once again. Thankyou for trying to help.

When burning software starts the burning process, it usually locks the drive door so you can't accidentally eject the disc during a burn. Something in the burning process has become corrupt and isn't releasing the door so that is why you can't open it. I'm stumped as to what happened.

There is a free burning program called CD Burner XP Pro. Do a Google search for it, download it and install it and see if it works for you.

Hello again, i have just downloaded CD Burner XP Pro successfully and now the ejecting is working. But theres always a but, it stops burning after 13% of writing to disc saying most likely cause being CD not compatable to burner. And yet i have tried 2 discs and know that they are because i have burnt these discs previously, "Stumped" you and me both.

At this point I would suspect the burner may be going bad. New burners are dirt cheap these days, it may be worth spending $20 or so for a new one.

Hello THX 1138, your answer is quite funny in that my original prognosis was
"it's fu***d". i assume you're american as you relate in terms ($) Dollars, personally i
deal in (£) Sterling. But disregarding that my burning system is built into the computer, therefore could you Educate a silly person in the ways means & hows of obtaining a "dirt cheap burner", Thankyou.

First you will need to determine if it is an IDE or SATA connection. IDE has a 40 pin connector and is connected by a wide ribbon cable. SATA is a much smaller connection, just about the size of a USB connector. Any electronic store or computer shop will have them. You can even get ones that burn DVD and Blue Ray depending on how much you want to spend. it's pretty easy to swap them out but if you're not comfortable in replacing it, you may want to take it to some place that can do it for you.
