Specs: Win XP Home Edition ULCPC HP, Don't know
My ffriend has an HP mini that will not boot up. I'm assuming that maybe the boot sector has a virus or is corrupt. Is the Win XP Home Edition different on a mini that it is on a regular laptop or desktop. Since the mini has no cd drive I am wondering if I can connect anything to the usb port and boot from there. I have already tried safe mode and it doesn't work either. A blue screen flashes by with some text but it is so fast it is impossible to read it. Does anyone have any ideas?

He should have a recovery partition, and there should be a key to press and hold during start up to access (possibly F6 or F8) check manual or online manual for HP.
If needed, it should be able to boot from a USB device (USB optical drive for this), but you might have to set the feature active in the BIOS, and set it first in the boot order also.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Just to followup I did a recovery after figuring out which Fkey to press and now the computer works like a charm without losing any data. Thanks fngers for your help.
