Solved HP laptop will not finish booting.

Specs: Windows XP Home, 256
It is an old HP Presario 750LA. It seems the USB ports (integrated in MoBo) were ill treated by the user.

Since then I can reinstall the OS (2 CDs).

When I try to boot up WinXP starts up it dies out, it will detect it didn't upload the previous time and allows me to choose the tipe of Boot, but none finishes because it reboote nearly inmediately. Any suggestions?

probably a faulty motherboard not worth trying to fix. It's time to wave goodbye to it and get something newer - one that's been looked after.

Thanks Phil, but there is a problem... I just love the machine. I had lent to my daughter and she took it to bed (pun intended). Pulled the PenDrive out and that was it. Now I can install XP completely but doesn't boot, I suspect that when XP tries to start up the USB ports it can't. Any ideas apart from putting it to sleep? I do have a newer NB...

Download a Linux LiveCD ISO file, burn it onto CD/DVD and try to start the computer from that CD.

If this will work, the computer should be ok so far.

When using OpenSUSE LiveCD, you can start it, by giving additional startup parameters at the startup menu.
If you type in splash=0, you can see, whether something will fail to start.
This might be helpful for investigating the problem on you computer.

Thank you Paulsep, I managed to get it to reinstall XP without the Keyboard installed and I monitored the processors heat... burnt my fingers. I was about to chuck it out but now you have given me more hopes.
