With windows live messenger, I have a drop down box under
"sign in as" then select available, offline etc

Perhaps you don't have this, if not I suggest you get the latest
version.

Of course I do have that, however that can only be used when I am actually USING the programme. I wish to be able to come online SHOWING offline, not make it that way afterwards. And I use MSN, not Live, because I prefer it. It IS possible to come on showing Offline, because on my laptop I have it that way, I just can't figure out how to set it that way on my main computer.

On my Windows live messenger, above the sign in button,
there is an option to sign in as 1.available 2 busy 3 away 4
appear offline.

I'm a bit confused, by exactly what you want.

Is your MSN coming on & signing in automatically?

Perhaps you need to stop it signing in automatically, change
the sign in as appear offline, then change it back to sign in
automatically.

Good! Also you could choose other way: choosing the contacts that you would like to appear offline. Great thing man great thing!
