How to save WEP key with Raylink RT2860

August 27, 2012 at 18:10:55
Specs: Windows XP, 512
Can't say I'm crazy about this Raylink RT2860 wireless lan card I just bought, it takes for ever to boot up, does not get a strong signal relatively close to my router and I have to put in my wep key every time I reboot. Anyone know how to save the wep key ?

I'm sure you don't have to use the program that came with it and can instead use the Windows utility, which I know saves the key.

Open up your Network Connections window, right-click the Wireless Connection, and select "Use Wireless Zero Configurationl" (named something like that).

I remember on my old computer using a Linksys wireless card in Windows XP, I could also right-click the Linksys program in my notification area and disable it, thus automatically using the Windows WZC utility.

If the WZC service isn't started, read this article on how to start it: http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app...

Apologies if I don't respond to your reply immediately. I don't check this site daily, but you're welcome to PM me as a reminder.

I went thru the Belkin process to set the Zero Configuration to automatic and it still wants my wep key every boot up.

I would uninstall the card's firmware. It sounds so poorly designed there may be a conflict. Then as Xps86 says use the Windows utility. This will probably save you boot time also.

You aren't uninstalling the cards firmware, you are uninstalling the software it uses to set it up. Go into Control Panel , Add Remove Programs and look for the Belkin software. You won't need to do it offline.

I uninstalled the utility and re installed the driver only now I can't make it work. It does not ask me for the wep key so I can;t connect to the internet
