Solved how to re-enable IE8 so can get windows updates

Specs: Windows XP
disabled IE8 as can't update it anymore and it has been superseded by IE9. Use Chrome. But can't get windows updates without it. Ideally want to enable IE8 easily, once a month, then disable it, so I get get Update Tuesday patches and wotnot.

IE8 is as good as it gets for XP. IE9 & IE10 are not supported & probably never will be. Why do you want to disable it? Just leave it enabled & don't use it unless you have to. To get your updates, go to Start > All Programs > Windows Update.

Why do you need to disable it - you can just not use it. It will continue to get security updates until April 2014 (there has just been two).

What is arguably more important is long term security. See this and the link to part 2:

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I agree with Derek above. No need to disable. You can have multiple browsers installed. FYI, Chrome is pretty intrusive, in case you didn't know that.
