Specs: Windows XP
I have a friend who created a windows media file on Movie Maker 2.6 in windows 7, and I would like to be able to open it on my xp machine. I can't download 2.6 to the best of my knowledge. Is there a solution?

A quick Google seems to imply that Movie Maker 2.6 is meant for XP so there should be no reason why it cannot install/run on your machine - in fact it seems to be part of SP2, tough having moved on from XP some time ago I couldn't vouch for this. So have you tried Googling for, and downloading/installing v2.6 to your machine? - it's worth a try.

XP SP2 came with MM v2.1.4026.0, but v2.6 should be compatible with XP.

I tried to download but was given an error message that it wasn't compatible with my version of Windows.

Try downloading it from a different location - the one you got may be corrupted - just a thought.
