How to "hide" the password entered via MS-DOS using the SET/P and changing the color of the text and background?

i dont know if i understand the question, but if you need to change the color for whatever reason just type in "color ?" into cmd to look at your color options

MS-DOS does not exist in XP, XP has NT Command Prompt for a list of parameters etcetera see:

I want to use the SET/P Command along with the Color Command to accept a password, but not display it on the screen as the user enters it.
I only want to do this with the text generated from:

set /p Psswrd=Enter password:


The remaining set/p statements should work as usual.
