How to format my drive

Specs: Windows XP, ?
I am hoping someone can help me. I have an asus laptop that the hard drive is done. I have the install disk, but the CD drive doesn't work on the laptop. I was hoping I could switch the hard drives from my other laptop (acer) format it on the acer then switch it back to the asus. But it doesn't seem to be working, if someone could please help me out on this it would be greatly appriciated

you cannot format the drive that you are using....this means that it must be done through a boot disc or some other third party accessable program or hardware setup.

This means that you can slave the drive to another computer and use the other computers programs to format the slaved drive.

You cannot install xp on a drive in another computer and transfer it to a different computer and have it work...

if your laptop supports booting from USB then you can sometimes use a specific flash drive or USB harddrive or external CD/dvd drive to work in setting up and formating the drive.
