You can not connect printer to CPU:

Do you have XP Service Pack either 2 or 3 installed ??

In Device Manager does it list under USB "Standard Enhanced" ??

If your computer has USB ports in the front and the back, it's likely the back ports are USB 2.0. If you're using a USB hub (aka. a splitter) to increase the number of ports, and the hub itself is USB powered, it's likely the hub isn't supplying each port with a lot of power to allow them to perform quicker.

Because your device is just a printer and not something like an external hard drive, I wouldn't worry about it.

Apologies if I don't respond to your reply immediately. I don't check this site daily.

If all your usb ports are 1.0 or 1.1 and you have an open pci slot on your motherboard just purchase a usb 2.0 pci card. Bought one myself a number of years ago that had four 2.0 ports on the card.
