adwcleaner is not now available for XP.

Are you doing routine maintenance, or do you have a specific problem?

well I got this laptop awhile ago from a friend and was hoping to be a replacement in case my other 1 died which it seemed could be anyday.I cleaned a lot off of it and tried to update a lot of the stuff as it wasn't used for years.I was trying to use the adw cleaner which I read on here to help.IT STATED THAT THIS LINK WAS FOR XP I thought as that was the computer that person was using and told to go to this link. But NOW according to your response and Also I noticed it didn't say xp but windows 7 etc at link on bleeping computers site.I was reading about having to update the BIOS of a computer last night too.IS THIS SOMETHING I NEED TO DO AS WELL?I am VERY NEW to THESE NIGHTMARE time succubus boxes. Not very impressed with computers so far.As I've WASTED SO MUCH TIME WITH THEM AND SEEM TO GET NOWHERE.I'm trying to learn them for my business, due to using them for ordering parts etc.But I really miss good old catalogs as they sure seem faster to me.What would you recomend as a course of action for me in this situation of trying to get this antique thing to function properly in this day and age? Also take into consideration this was someone elses unit and has quite a bit of programs already on it in which I have tried to update to the best of my knowledge.WHICH ISN'T MUCH but what I could cram in my brain in 2 months of studying, reading taking notes and Barely sleeping. If you could steer me in the proper direction I would greatly appreciate it!Or would I be better off just to SAVE UP and buy a new computer?Although that will take some time as I'm not out to get rich overnight like most Auto repair shops. This is mainly just a Personal computer which is used to look up parts and ordering things when I can over the web.Thank you for ALL YOUR TIME and Effort.P.s I do still have my other laptop with windows 7 ultimate which I try to use as well. And this 1 is ALSO in about the same boat but I seem to have it working ok,at least today,Tomorow who knows as it seems every day is a mystery. That 1 I'm trying to decide what antivirus to use AGAIN!due to ACTIONS by AVAST who I no longer trust! After last night I will NOW want to get rid of BAIDU from this xp as well.Kaspersky didn't work good with xp either.SORRY FOR SO MANY QUESTIONS But I just am trying to get a HANDLE on these Contraptions and exspand my knowledge for the future seeing how's it's only going to become more technical. Thanks Again for any help! And if I am in the WRONG SITE PLEASE SAY SO And maybe you could steer me to say a NOVICE GROUP?

"IS THIS SOMETHING I NEED TO DO AS WELL?"
No.

"What would you recomend as a course of action for me in this situation of trying to get this antique thing to function properly in this day and age?"
There is no easy way, other than practice.

"I will NOW want to get rid of BAIDU from this xp as well"
I would keep it, I have the latest version on 3 old XP comps, it does the job perfectly.

"WRONG SITE PLEASE SAY SO"
You are in the right site.

We will be able to get the comp working perfectly. Small steps.

l will start here, let me know when you have done these steps.

Run both of these, in this order.
1: Wise Disk Cleaner ( Run the 1st three tabs, left to right. I use default settings, leave boxes that are unchecked, unchecked ) Reboot when finished.

"I was reading about having to update the BIOS of a computer last night too.IS THIS SOMETHING I NEED TO DO AS WELL?"

No. There will be no benefit to updating the BIOS and you could easily render the machine useless if something goes awry.

"...but what I could cram in my brain in 2 months of studying, reading taking notes and Barely sleeping. If you could steer me in the proper direction I would greatly appreciate it!Or would I be better off just to SAVE UP and buy a new computer?"

While there's a lot to be learned by re-purposing an old machine, it shouldn't be something giving you this much grief and keeping you awake. Save your money---buy a new machine. There's a decent amount of machines out there for just a couple hundred dollars.
