Can someone tell me how windows retains the order of items in a toolbar from reboot to reboot. I thought it might be stored in the registry some where, but I could not find it.

The registry is the normal place to store that sort of information. But it may be in the form of a rather arcane number.

Why do you need to know. If you lock the toolbar nothing will move.

Applications manage the configuration of their own toolbars. Typically this information will be in the registry but could also be in a file. In any event where and how this is done is up to the application. Don't expect this to be in an understandable form.
