How do I turn off touchpad

Acer Travelmate 6293-6727 notebook
November 10, 2009 at 07:57:33
Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, 2.26 GHz / 3032 MB
When I type my thumbs (or any fingers
sometimes) slowly drift down and tap by
accident the touchpad, and it causes all my
typing to be ruined. It moves the cursor upward
and starts to add text in the middle. I cant
type properly everr bec. of this. I know I should
just be careful not to tap the touchpad, but it's
very hard for me.
Is there any other way to fix this?

There should be some type of utility (either included or down-loadable) that should allow you to turn off the touchpad. You may need to search Acer's website to find it...

I believe Acer uses FN+F7 keys to disable & reenable touchpad. On my Toshiba laptop it is FN+F9.
