Ctrl-Alt-Arrow key will rotate the screen. Or, are you trying to prevent the screen from auto-rotating? If that's it, go to Settings > Display, and check disabled Auto-rotate screen item

Screen rotation still does not work.

Thank you Jennifer for the reply. Appreciated. Unfortunately for some strange reason this version of Windows XP professional with service Pack 3 does not have the screen rotation facility in the Display Panel, and unfortunately your Control-Alt-Arrow key sequence does not work on any combination. I am wondering if there is some software available that can be installed or alternately there is some hardware capability and the machine which I have not worked out?
Thank you again. Jeff

If your laptop uses Intel Graphics, try this:

Right click on the desktop, then click Properties. Click the Settings tab, then click the Advanced button. Click the Intel Graphics tab, then click the Graphics Properties button. Click Display Settings, then Enable Rotation.

EDIT: I just found an easier way - Crtl+Alt+F12 > Display Settings, then Enable Rotation.
