Solved How do I get the broken paper icon.

May 24, 2016 at 23:58:49
Specs: Windows XP, Intel Celeron 1.30GHz
Yesterday morning I listed several items on eBay with no problems. Last night when I went to My Ebay and clicked "Sell an item", a page came up stating I was trying to view the page with compatibility mode and that I should change that by clicking the broken paper icon at the top of the page. There is no "broken paper" icon anywhere.

I right clicked an empty space on menu bar and checked "Compatibility View Button", but no broken paper icon appared anywhere. I rebooted the PC, but there was still no broken paper icon anywhere.

This same thing happened a few months ago, but I have no idea how the problem was corrected.

The "sell an item" link on the My Ebay page is the only thing that doesn't work. Items sold, Saved drafts, etc., all work fine.

What browser are you using? Ebay doesn't like IE 8 anymore--the most recent version compatible with XP--and suggests you update, giving links to chrome and firefox.

I've had some minor problems using IE 8 there. For example I can't leave feedback unless I use firefox. I haven't done any selling there recently so can't say if it affects any of their selling pages.

You probably need to contact eBay for that.

If you are using Internet Explorer then at the very top go to "Tools > Compatibility View settings". See if ebay is showing in the larger box and if so highlight it and click the Remove button.

If you are using some other browser then you will need to let us know which one because there are too many for us to guess. Note that you shouldn't be using IE on XP because it is no longer secure.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Already checked Compatibility View Settings. There is nothing in the larger box. In the small "Add This Website" box, the name of the page appears, but I didn't add it to the large box.

I just noticed the broken paper icon appears on this page, right where it's suppose to be. I went to Ebay and there still is no icon. Came back to this page and the icon is still there. Why would it appear on this page and not on Ebay?

When I clicked Tools from this page, both Compatibility View and Compatibility View Settings are in black. On Ebay only Compatibility View Settings is in black. Compatibility View is gray.

I guess OtheHill is right and you need to contact eBay about this one as it only happens on their "sell an item" link .

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Called Ebay last night, but after explaining the problem, I was put on hold for about 20 minutes while the person I spoke with looked into the problem. I was told to clear my cookies and temp files, which had already been done. Beyond that, it was a complete puzzle.

Maybe I'll try again and hope to get someone else.
