How do I download on MP3 file in Windows???

October 9, 2010 at 14:12:41
Specs: Windows XP
I get on error page that says Windows does not recognize the file. Then I try to find a software link that might help but only get paid registry cleanup sites that are advertised. How do I find the right fix to be able to download an MP3 file in Windows XP? thanks.

Windows media player supports MP3 format and so do any number of other media players out there. Start up WMP and then see if it will open(play) the MP3

thanks Richard. Yes, WMP plays MP3's but my problem is downloading an MP3 from MP3.com. Windows says it does not recognize the file. the only links offered are to registry cleanup software sites. I already have a registry cleanup program and all is well, so I don't know where to go to get the MP3 to download???

You are not by any chance trying to download this file on your employers computer are you?

Windows cares little as to what kind of file it is downloading, they are all just a string of numbers until you try to open it. However, if there is something in the way that does recognise MP3 files and has been told to block them, an anti-virus for instance, then that could be your problem.

I don't happen to use mp3.com and wonder how you are downloading the file - third party downloader or normal Windows download? When exactly does error message appear? Not sure I can help but the above info might tell me something.

Another thought. Are you actually downloading this file as a complete entity or trying to stream it, playing it as it comes over the Internet. If the latter that would indicate an registry problem.

You can check that by trying to play another MP3 file that you might already have. If they play aright then that is not the problem,

Incidentally, I have just downloaded an MP3 file from MP3,com with out a problem. Willy Nelson singing Man with the blues if you are interested

Save target as...(IE), or Save link as... (Firefox), etc...
