If you wipe it out then you can't reload it since you have no disk right?

Try booting to a live linux cd and see if it works.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?

After you wipe out the drive, what do you have planned? You stated you have no Windows disc therefore the PC will be completely useless after you're done wiping it. Your comments about the ISP & IP address make no sense.

Go to distrowatch.com for almost any of the top distros. They all offer a live cd. You download the iso file and burn it to a disk. Then boot your computer to the cd or dvd. You need to burn the iso as an image not a file.

The reason I say use the live cd is that it may help decide if your computer is bad or your isp is off or your OS is off. If you learn to use live cd's you have start to troubleshoot most of the issues maybe.

"i do not have anything to keep on the pc"

That may be true, but once you erase the hard drive, you don't have a copy of Windows to put back on it. Even if you did have an XP CD, I doubt you would know where to find the drivers for the motherboard chipset, video, audio, network, etc. And I doubt you would know what to do with a Linux Live CD even if you had one. Do you even know what a "live CD" is? Do you know how to burn an ISO file to a CD? I could be wrong, but my guess is the answer to both questions is NO.

I suggest you have somebody who knows what they're doing have a look at your PC.

BTW, if there's "no ip address for wireless or with cable and rooter", how is it that you can get online with a netbook?
