Hi
My copy of Windows XP Professional was registered to someone else's name when they upgraded my hard drive for me, but I want to have my name displayed as the user/login name without deleting and re-creating the account.

I've already done the entire method of:
Start>Run>regedit>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Windows NT>Current Version and edited the "RegisteredOwner", but the user name still doesn't display on the Start menu or login screen. However, it does display the correct name on the "About Windows" window when I type "winver.exe" into Run.

Also, for some reason, there is no "Change My Name" option in the User Accounts menu.

Is there a way to change it?

Thanks for any help.

Boot in safe mode and log in as administrator....then you should have "Change my name" option...

You should be able to change the name on your logon account with ease. Doing so won't change the folder structure though. It would still have the orginal owner.

Way I prefer is to create a new user [with your name]. Then logged in as administrator go the original owner documents and settings folder [c:\documents and settings\owner] and copy the entire contents. Then go you your user name and paste those contents. This will make your profile exactly like the owner profile.

Confirm everything works and then delete the original owners profile if you wish.

Thanks for the replies, but I only have one account, and it's the
administrator's account. I've managed to change it now anyway,
although I'm not sure how I did it.

Thanks again for the replies.
