How Do I Change Memory Settings?

November 14, 2010 at 10:10:05
Specs: Windows XP, 1.25B\GB

I Have successfully installed Windows XP Virtual Machine, but there are problems trying to modify/change the program’s default memory settings. The settings in this area of the program poses a serious need for how-to options.
I am unable to change the memory default settings of 256MB to a higher value.
Understanding that the vm must be shut down before these changes can be made, there seems to be a wide gulf in repeated attempts at doing this.

The instructions say the virtual machine must be completely shut down before changes can be made to the various features, but there seems to be disconnect in this because going into the Tools-> Settings doesn’t help.
E.g., if it must be shut down, then how can you re-enter this area w/o it being turned back on again, even getting to the area listings, such as:
Hard Disk 1
Hard Disk 2
and a host of many other settings?

Even going to the Alt+Ctrl+Del tab and pressing the shutdown button will still bring you back to the area where you started, a looping condition that will never unravel itself!
What conditions must be met in order to get to this grayed out section of the menu in attempting to change these settings?

Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

Best Regards,

If you shutdown xp using the shutdown command you should then be able to change memory. It could be that your system only has maybe 1G and can't afford anymore for the VM.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?
