Is your monitor and video adapter being correctly identified ?

RIGHT click on a blank area of your main desktop screen - Properties - Settings.
It should show something other than Default or unknown Monitor on (the name of the display adapter).

If that's okay, change the number of colors to 16 bit ot higher.

If that's NOT okay, tell us what it says there.

You may need to change the Monitor setiing, and/or install the video drivers for your specfic video adapter, the proper way.
.....

If it says
Default or unknown Monitor on (the name of the display adapter).
