|The Microsoft 6 floppy sets for XP's Setup (there are several versions) only loads the same files that are normally initially loaded from the XP CD - that's for computers that cannot boot from a CD drive - you still need an XP CD to run Setup and finish installing Windows. |
You can't use the Windows Re-installation CD or Recovery disks for a different brand name computer model on your brand name computer model - they will refuse to install.
If you know someone who has a regular OEM Microsoft XP CD of the same version as on the official Microsoft label on your laptop - Home or Pro - then you can legally, as far as Microsoft is concerned, use that CD to install Windows on your laptop along with the Product Key that's on that official label.
A regular OEM Microsoft XP CD has "For distribution with a new PC only." printed on it's surface, and it has the Microsoft holograms on it.
