how can i unhide a hidden folder

Specs: Windows XP
I have been infected by a trojan which renamed my folders to something like Windows.exe. When I managed to install an AV software that cleared out the trojan, it deleted all the folders with .exe extension. At first I can't view the folders in my laptop because they were hidden and the Folder Options setting was not showing. But I managed to resolve that and now I can see the folders.

My dilemma now is how to unhide them since they remain hidden and even if I right-click and select Properties, the Hidden Attribute is locked so I can't uncheck it.

I've tried the solutions that involves editing the registry values for the ShowAll registry entry but the registry values are all what they should be and even when I edited them to basically the same values, the issue still persists.

Would appreciate any reply on the matter. I know I can eventually reformat my PC but I would want a better solution than that.

Right click, properties, security, advanced,

assign your account as the owner and take full control. Then uncheck hidden.
