I am trying to access my DOS files in Windows XP and I keep getting a message to insert a disk into the floppy drive. The disk is in the drive and I suspect that I'm having problems because the file is probably a DOS file. Is there any way that I can access these files?
odds are the disk is bad and can't be read in the floppy drive. What is the file format of these files? In other words Word docs/excel/???

How to properly post a question:
Sorry no tech support via PM's
DOS files are essentially the same as Windows files and can be accessed without problem. Most likely the Floppy is bad or the drive may have problems. If it is the drive a special head cleaning disk may solve the problem.
I think it's a Word Perfect doc file.
Yes, I suspect that you're both right about the disk being old. Unfortunately all of my floppy disks are about the same age, so I can't compare. I tried several disks with the same result.
I have another floppy drive, so I can try swapping them and see if I get the same message. If so, then it's probably the age of the disks.
Thanks, both of your for your replies.
