How can I manage the system tray?

March 27, 2011 at 08:08:28
Specs: Windows XP
Usually I had more icons on my system try, but since yesterday I only have 3: the avast antivirus, the network connection and another one belonging to the vendor (Toshiba touch and launch). I used to have also the battery icon (it's about a laptop) or the plug icon (when the A.C. plug was in), I also had the Desktop Weather icon, the icon to set the sound volume, the other to select the display luminosity when running on battery plus some others. They started to appear or disappear randomly during various startups, but right now no one wants to come back. How do I manage them?

Right click a blank area of the Taskbar, then click 'Properties', then what you want is at the bottom of the window.

Thank you, but please be more explicit. I did this many times, apparently nothing changes. What exactly should I click or should I set?

You can uncheck "Hide inactive icons", or
click the Customize... button.
Then under the "Behavior" column, click eg. Always Hide, then change that to what you want eg. Always Show.

Did it once again, they have the setting "show always" but they are not shown. I start to get tired and nervous...

Check Task Manager to see if these things are actually running. If so, it might be an icon cache problem. See http://smallvoid.com/article/window... for various remedies.
