You don't need two routers. Use the router connected to your modem if it's wireless and plug an adapter like this into your laptop. When you boot the laptop, it should find the network from your router. If you gave it a username and password, enter it when asked, and you should connect.

But the only reason I am using the other router is because this compaq model uses a access card which i do not have and i have d-link air plus which will not work without the access card and a belkin 54g wireless network adapter that went out is their another way? I appreciate your help by the way.

I just looked up the specs on that laptop. That's a real dinosaur. Since it has no usb ports, my previous post doesn't apply. Maybe someone here with more experience on old computers can help. Even if you could get on the net, I would suspect not much would work and it would just crawl along. I'm surprised xp even runs on that. Good Luck.

You tried the basic stuff already I'm guessing. Does the other router recognize the router that's attatched? Are the security settings allowing the connection. I would review this first. Check the cable, check the connection, check the settings. Can you log on to the router and see the other router. Can you connect something else to the router that is attatched to the presorio? See if it works?

Can you clarify a little more what is connected to what?

You have one modem and two routers?

For discussion, call modem M1, and routers R1 and R2.

What is M1 connected to?

How is the laptop connect to which router (R1 or R2 accordingly)?

How are are R1 and R2 connected - presuming they are connected to each other?

R1 is connected to the modem which give the internet connection, r2 is wirelessly connected to r1, r2 is connected to the laptop via eithernet cable r2 is what gives the laptop the connection their for i can get into both wifi routers from the laptop using r2 but the laptop or the r2 will not let me go to a webpage such as Google or Yahoo , but the connection works fine. So in review i can get into r1 and r2 from r2 and the laptop to configure but just can't go to a webpage. PLEASE HELP.
