"Local disk C" is not memory, it's storage space. They are 2 completely different things. If you need more storage space, go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Progarms & uninstall what you don't need/want. I doubt that will cure the freezing problem though. You most likely have something else going on, possibly an infection or overheating.

you never said the name and model for the PC, so you can google to see if it has a hidden partition and then boot to it and do a fresh install

To have more RAM available at startup,
You can do Start, then RUN, then type
Then uncheck items in the Startup tab.

To find out what each Startup(or Process) item
does or means, and any recommendation as to if you should close the process:
Task List Programs
The Process Library
Computer Speed and Performance May Decrease

When you open, then close programs,
programs may not free up RAM memory.
That is called "Memory Leak".
Restarting computer will clear out its RAM memory.
install more RAM memory.
