Specs: Windows Vista
how do I fix a frozen computer screen? Windows xp , opens but mouse will not open anything...will not go to internet..suspect a virus
it is xp which is what I typed on my laptop I have tried a new mouse also..not that..I have tried running AVG and that did not work...it shut down before it finished...went on safeboot to do that. The mouse goes to the google page which will not open any of the destinations...so I don't think it is the mouse.

A virus is possible but so is a faulty mouse or its driver. Have you any other reason to suspect a virus? Best try another mouse first (beg or borrow one).

EDIT:
You have posted on XP forum but spec says Vista - which is it?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

You might just try a system restore. If you can't get to it in normal mode because your mouse isn't cooperating you can try from safe mode or command prompt:

thank you for your help...I did a system restore and it is running now. I also did a defrag which helped to make it smoother. Thank you very much.

It might also be good nonetheless to run a couple of freebie cleaner utilities too… Just in-case there is a "sumat nasty" lurking about?

adwcleaner and malwarebytes would be good to start with; frequently and highly recommended here by those well up on dealing the irritations and pests…

And ensure your anti-virus utility is current...
