help dell d610 asking for password

Specs: windows xp, 512mb ram
omg i totally screwed up help me my dell latitude d610 is now asking for a start up password and ive never set one. after installing a driver from dell.com and installing it to the documents and settings folder. then i installed updates from windows update and rebooted it and its asking for a password. is there a way to fix this pls help i need a guru

Omg, do you really think we're that stupid?

Installing a driver does not make a computer ask for a password. And you don't install a driver to a folder.

i dont know what caused it thats just what i last did before this happened and i ment to say extracted to not installed. why would i try to trick someone about a problem? also the password is on start up

Is the password prompt after the Windows splash screen or before?

Then boot into Windows safe Mode by tapping F8 at start up and change it there. If prompted for a password there hit enter.

i tried it it didn't work it went to the same start up screen and asked for a password so i tried hitting enter and it didn't work

The alternative is to contact Dell support but be prepared to provide proof of ownership.

Or you could re-install Windows.

You can use a live version of Linux to copy your personal files before that.
