Hard Drive Problems! Help ASAP!

Specs: Windows Vista
I have a hard drive that was from my old computer that i have recently enclosed it so that i may use it as an external hard drive. i have tried to access my hard drive using windows vista though my old hard (now an external) was running on an XP OS. how can i acces my files from my old hard drive with out formatting (loosing any files) and change it from RAW to NTFS?

What type of enclosure are you using, is it IDE internally to USB externally? If this is the configuration then the drive should be seen within Windows and you should be able to access it easily.

Is the drive visible from within Windows?

If you are able to see it I would suggest taking a backup, or copying the files to your new hard drive before converting it to NTFS.

Look for the drive in Disk Management. If it shows there you may need to take ownership of the drive. I don't use Vista so I can't describe the exact procedure. Google for Taking ownership with Vista. Look at the link below.

IT says it is EIDE But the E just means it is snhanced So yeah Its IDE and windows will read it and show it in my computer i just cant open it it just asks me to format. i have also tried freeware recovery softwares and it won even read them.

What does it say about your external hard drive in Disk management. Post everything.
