I erased the entire HDD - partitions and all. I do not have the MCE 2005 restore/reinstll disk. Win98 will install BUT NOT able to install anyother OS!. I think it has something to do with the lack of a SATA driver. It will not boot from a Flash Drive and Win98 won't recognize flash drive either.
I've downloaded and have other disk I can install from, but nothing but win98 works..
Have you tried using nlite and intergrating the drivers into your windows XP CD Then windows should be able to pick up the hard disk installed!
Hope this helps!
You may have a chance if F11 key works at boot...see if this helps. http://support.gateway.com/s/SOFTWA...

"I erased the entire HDD - partitions and all" You obviously did it deliberately, knowing that you did not have the "MCE 2005 restore/reinstll disk". What was your plan?
I sold the laptop on ebay and listed in my auction that I "wiped" the hard drive clean, so none of my peronal info was left. The buyer received it and had the same problem I am so he returned it for a full refund. Now I decided to keep it. I sold my other laptop too and was going to buy a better one with the $$ from both of them. Well, I spent the other cash on bills so I'm keeping this one :(
Just booted the laptop and F11 is not an option. It boots straight into Win98. I didn't see the option of F11 so I rebooted and tapped F11 contnuially and still the same thing.
I have "tried" nLite with no luck.
