Hard Disk E cannot be formatted

Specs: Windows XP, Intel P4/1 GB
Bios is showing Hard disk failure is immented and replace it.I have a seagate 40GB IDE Hard Disk.When i was copying some files from pen drive to hard disk the computer get stuck and i restarted but the next boot up was very slow and i formatted the hard disk E and all went as usual but then bios showing Harddisk failure is immented and replace.when some times i copy to drive E the copiying rate is so slow and sometimes computer gets stuck.Please help me.I don't have money to buy a new Hard disk.Can anyone solve this problem.Please.........

The drive has failed. Is Drive E a partition of the primary hard disk or a slave drive?

There is no fixing a failing drive. I would be backing up my files to dvd's or removable media of some kind while it still maybe possible!!!
