Gateway laptop won't boot

February 20, 2015 at 01:46:01
Specs: Windows XP
I have a Gateway laptop model MX6959 that will show the gateway logo at the beginning but then the screen turns black and it just stays there. I cant go to safe mode by pressing F8 if I press F8 while the gateway logo appears then it goes black it just make a beeping sound. I can go to BIOS settings F2 and i can go to boot menu F10. If I go to boot menu and enter any of the three options which are CDROM/DVD,Main Hard Drive, and Boot to LAN it just goes to the black/blank screen. Also this isn't my laptop its my cousins so i don't know what they did to it I'm just trying to fix it for them.

"If I go to boot menu and enter any of the three options which are CDROM/DVD,Main Hard Drive, and Boot to LAN it just goes to the black/blank screen"

You can't boot from the CD/DVD drive unless you have a bootable CD or DVD in the drive. You can't boot from LAN unless you're connected to a network drive. And you can't boot from a HDD if it's dead/damaged or the OS is corrupt. Is the HDD still listed in the BIOS? I suggest booting from a Linux disc, then see if the contents of the HDD are readable or not. Or try running a bootable HDD diagnostics program.

I tried both Lazesoft Recovery and ultimate boot cd and it just does the same it just goes to the black/blank screen. I burned both disks one for Lazesoft and one for ultimate both don't work on laptop I checked boot menu and CD/DVD is the first one to boot but it doesn't work. I tried both cds on my desktop and both work fine.
