Games Not Starting

Microsoft Microsoft windows xp home edit...

Specs: Windows XP
I recently switched from Pro to Home, and after a while I noticed I couldn't run any of my games that I could before. Doom 3, Quake 4, My Tribe, Sim City 4, etc. I double click the icon, but nothing happens. The only exception is My Tribe. If I restart the computer and immediately run My Tribe, it will run no problem. Then, if I quit to the desktop and try to run it again, nothing happens. I've uninstalled and re-installed multiple times to no avail. My Direct x drivers, motherboard and video card drivers are all up to date. I've ran numerous virus scans with Shaw Secure, Spybot, TrendMicro Housecall, Adaware, nothing comes up. My local computer shop can't seem to nail down the problem. I hope someone can help.

I'm not sure why you would have switched from pro to home, as this would have no advantages. From your description, I think you might just have to format the drive and reinstall windows clean, update, and reinstall your programs (don't forget to back up all of your personal files first). To make it easier, download new copies of all of your drivers and be ready to reinstall them when the time comes.

I found the problem. Around the same time all this started happening, I had a nasty virus that Shaw Secure couldn't find, and I had my local shop remove it for me, and it turns out that virus completely destroyed Shaw Secure. If I disable it, all my games run beautifully.

Completely uninstall your AV program and reinstall it or another in it's place ASAP.
